Asten Does Nostalgia

Where nostalgia meets chaos, and Daisy won’t shut up about it

🦊 The Unfinished Tale of Basil Brush

A mini-rant-meets-tribute from Actually Asten 💖

There are a few things that defined British childhood in the 2000s: MSN Messenger, Sunny D, and a certain orange fox yelling “Boom Boom!” on CBBC every afternoon.

Basil Brush wasn’t just a puppet — he was a personality. He had more charisma than half the adults on telly, a better wardrobe than most pop stars, and a comedic timing that could silence an entire living room of hyper kids.

And yet… they just ended it. No finale, no “where are they now,” no tearful goodbye from Mr Stephen — just… poof. The fox went out with a whimper instead of a Boom Boom. 😭

Like — excuse me, BBC? You don’t give us six seasons of chaos, abandoned children, and unhinged comedy sketches, then vanish like the parents in Molly and Dave’s storyline. We deserved closure!

What the finale should have given us:

  • 🦊 Basil retires from showbiz and opens a comedy club.
  • 💌 Molly and Dave’s parents finally come home (and immediately regret it).
  • 📺 All the old flatmates return for one last “Ha ha ha, Boom Boom!”
  • 🎬 Emotional montage, original theme tune, studio audience sobbing, credits roll.

Instead, we were left with nothing but YouTube clips, our own memories, and the faint smell of chaos and 2000s studio lighting.

So here’s to you, Basil — icon, legend, and fox-shaped piece of our collective childhood. You may never have got your proper ending, but you’ll always have a permanent residency in our nostalgic little hearts.

Boom Boom forever. 🦊💖
