Can we talk about how some adverts in the 00s were just… unnecessarily terrifying?
Like excuse me???
I’m just trying to watch Top of the Pops Saturday with my cereal…
why am I suddenly being emotionally ambushed 😭
There were always a few that felt completely out of place.
One minute:
✨ pop music
✨ good vibes
✨ Saturday morning happiness
Next minute:
👁️ weird visuals
👁️ intense music
👁️ a voiceover that felt way too serious
And as a kid, you didn’t always understand what the advert was even for…
you just knew it felt WRONG.
Those ones that:
- went really quiet all of a sudden
- had that eerie background music
- or just gave you that weird sinking feeling for no reason
Like… why was it so intense??? Who approved that for children watching TV?? 😭
And the worst part?
You couldn’t escape it.
No skipping.
No muting (unless you were quick).
Just sitting there like:
👁️👄👁️
“…I don’t like this.”
Looking back now, they were probably trying to be meaningful or dramatic.
But at the time?
Straight into the Fear Files.
