There are some pop opinions I will happily debate.
This is not one of them.
Avenue deserved better.
Not “oh bless them” better.
BETTER better.
They had one song — Last Goodbye — and honestly? That alone should have secured them at least one album, a couple of chaotic single signings in HMV, and a support slot on someone else’s tour. That song was emotional, dramatic, slightly too intense for a school night, and absolutely perfect.
The late 00s were ruthless. One wobble and you were out. No time to grow, no second chances, no “let’s see where this goes.” And Avenue? They were gone almost as soon as they arrived.
And yes, I do mention them a lot.
Because some injustices don’t fade — they just become niche personality traits.
If Avenue had come along a few years earlier… or later… or literally been given five minutes more breathing room, I am convinced they’d now be doing nostalgia tours where we all scream-sing the bridge like it’s therapy.
So no, I’m not letting it go.
Pop Nonsense Mode™ remembers.
Justice for Avenue. Always.
