You know that moment when the film ends, the screen fades to black, and you’re left sitting there in silence, clutching your popcorn bowl? For me, that’s when the fear kicked in.
As a kid, I loved Disney VHS tapes — the sparkle of the castle intro, the magic, the songs — but I dreaded what came after. The end credits would roll, and I’d start to panic, because soon it would be over and something weird would happen.
Maybe the screen would go fuzzy and the tape would start rewinding with that creepy whirring sound. Maybe it would suddenly cut to a trailer or that deep, echoing “COMING SOON TO OWN ON VIDEO AND DVD” voice. Or worse, it would just stop — silence, static, nothing.
It felt like falling out of the fairytale and into a void. One minute you’re singing along with Ariel or Simba, and the next… existential dread, age seven. 😭
Now I look back and laugh — because of course, it was just a tape doing tape things — but back then, that after the movie moment was pure terror. A tiny childhood reminder that even magic has to end… until you pressed rewind. 🩵📼✨
