When We Had Playboy Bunny Everything (and No Idea What It Meant)

Y2K innocence meets sparkly chaos.

There was a time when being the height of sophistication meant owning something — anything — with a sparkly bunny on it.

Pencil cases. Hoodies. Phone charms. Even those little coin purses from the market for £2.50 if you asked nicely. We had Playboy Bunny everything… and absolutely no clue what it actually meant.

We thought it was just fashion. Glamorous. Grown-up. A pink, glittery logo that made us feel like we’d levelled up from Groovy Chick to “mature woman who owns lip gloss.” Meanwhile, our mums were like, “Sure, love, it’s cute,” blissfully unaware that we were basically advertising adult magazines on our schoolbags.

The market stalls were chaos: Groovy Chick notebooks next to bunny handbags, fake Louis Vuittons sharing a rail with glittery “Angel” hoodies. Claire’s sold bunny earrings. New Look had bunny hair clips. Even the catalogues joined in. We just thought it was glam.

Then one day, years later, the collective realisation hit:
“Oh… ohhh. That’s what that meant.”

Cue the awkward flashbacks of proudly walking into Year 8 French with a Playboy pencil case and matching pink scrunchie.

But honestly? It’s part of the charm of growing up in the 2000s. We weren’t being rebellious — we were just magpies for glitter. The bunny wasn’t scandal; it was vibes.

We lived, we learned, and we did it all in pink. 💅✨
