Every so often, one of my nostalgia rabbit holes turns into something bigger โ something that wants to be a story.
Thatโs how Pop Song began.
It started with a simple thought: what if someone had a secret fascination with balloons? What if it scared them a little, but also made them curious? And what if that mix of fear and fascination led them somewhere new โ like a job in a party shop, surrounded by everything they thought they couldnโt handle?
Meet Anna Stone, a sixteen-year-old who never meant to go viral for blowing up balloons. When her YouTube videos take off and she lands a job at Party Palace, she finds herself facing her fears head-on. Between static shocks, unexpected friendships, and the soundtrack of early-00s pop, Anna starts to discover that courage can come from the strangest corners of life.
Iโve poured so much of my own story into this one โ the weirdness, the wonder, the way nostalgia can be both comforting and confronting. Itโs one of the most personal things Iโve ever written, and Iโm so excited to finally share it with you.
โจ Read it if you love: early-00s vibes, coming-of-age stories, and finding beauty in the things that once scared you.
Because sometimes, courage really does sound like a pop song. ๐
