From My Memory Box: The “Wear It Pink Day” Hairband Fiasco

This post is part of From My Memory Box — a series where I open the lid on the personal memories that shaped who I am today. The little things that still glow softly in my heart.

The Memory

It was Wear It Pink Day at school — you know, the charity day where everyone had to wear something pink for breast cancer awareness. I’d planned my outfit the night before, perfectly coordinated down to the sparkly pink hairband I’d laid out on my desk.

And then, of course, the next morning… it was gone. Vanished. Cue the full pre-school meltdown: drawers flying open, wardrobe chaos, tears, and me wailing, “I can’t go without it!” like the fate of the world depended on this one hair accessory.

Mum tried to help, bless her, but it was too late — I’d entered that spiral where nothing could possibly be okay again. We eventually found it (in the most random place, obviously), but by then my hair was frizzy from stress and I was running late. I still wore it though — slightly wonky, but proudly pink.

Why It Stuck

Looking back, that tiny drama says so much about me. I just wanted to get it right — to join in, to look the part, to not be the one who forgot. It wasn’t really about the hairband; it was about belonging, and how much effort it takes sometimes to feel part of the crowd.

Now I can laugh at it, but there’s also something kind of sweet about how seriously I took it. I cared — maybe too much, but also in the most wholehearted way. And the best bit? My mum still has the little pink sticker they gave us that day. Tucked away in a drawer, slightly faded, but still there — proof that even the most dramatic mornings can turn into soft little keepsakes years later. 💖

If You Remember This Too…

Did your school ever do “Wear It Pink” or any of those charity dress-up days? What did you wear, and did anything go hilariously wrong in your rush to join in?

Daisy’s Note: The hairband may have gone rogue, babes, but the vibes were flawless. 💅🎀
