When your Motorola Razr shows up on TikTok as an “artifact.” 💅💿
It happened when I saw a TikTok caption that said, “Y2K is officially vintage now 💅✨.” I thought, oh cute — like 70s or 80s vintage?
Then the video cut to someone proudly holding up… a Motorola Razr. My Motorola Razr. From 2004.
That was the moment I felt my soul leave my body.
💿 “Wait… they mean my era?”
I’m not saying I’m ancient, but apparently the jeans I wore to my Year 8 disco are now “retro aesthetic.” One minute I’m pairing a sparkly halter top with butterfly clips and calling it style, the next it’s on Depop for £80 as “vintage Y2K couture.”
If anyone calls MSN “historical tech,” I’m logging off permanently.
📱 When the TikTok Teens Discovered the 00s
It’s wild watching Gen Z “discover” our world like archaeologists unearthing a flip phone. Low-rise jeans, chunky belts, plastic bangles… they’re all back. And said with a straight face: “look at this vintage outfit!”
Babes, that’s literally what I wore to the cinema to see The Lizzie McGuire Movie. You want vintage? Try waiting 20 minutes for a song to download on Limewire and praying it wasn’t a virus.
💖 It’s Weirdly Beautiful, Though
After the initial “I’m fossilised” panic faded, I realised something kind of lovely: our era lives on. The music, the fashion, the shows — people still care. The stuff that made us happy then is making a whole new generation happy now. It’s like our teenage years got a reboot, just with better Wi-Fi.
🔄 Full Circle Moments
00s playlists trending on Spotify, Bratz dolls back on shelves, Von Dutch caps in Urban Outfitters. I saw a beaded phone charm and nearly cried from pride. We walked so they could run… in platform Skechers.
⏳ Maybe Vintage Isn’t a Bad Thing
Maybe “vintage” doesn’t mean old — maybe it means loved. It means the world finally caught up to the stuff we never stopped adoring.
And honestly? If our butterfly clips, MSN statuses, and CD walkmans count as vintage now… then I’m proud to be a collector. 💅💿
