Every pop-fan story has a beginning — this was mine.
It was 2002, the CBBC channel had just launched, and I’d recently fallen head-over-platform-heels for S Club after watching Miami 7. A few months later, my mum somehow pulled off the impossible: tickets to the S Club Carnival Tour… second row from the front.
Looking back, I’ve no idea how she did it 🤣 but there I was — sparkly cheeks, S Club T-shirt, tiny heart pounding out of my chest — ready to see my heroes in real life.
And it was wild. The lights, the dancing, the confetti — all those songs I’d been playing on repeat suddenly filling the arena. I barely remember the setlist (even though I’ve since watched the DVD a million times), but I’ll never forget how it felt.
That was the night I fell in love with concerts. The magic, the energy, the shared joy of thousands of people singing the same words. I didn’t know it then, but that show would shape the next twenty-odd years of my life — the playlists, the countdowns, the glitter, the thrill of seeing my favourites live again and again.
All thanks to S Club. 💖
