The ad breaks were chaos and the Ofcom elves were asleep.
The 90s/00s ad breaks were CHAOS. Looking back, it’s actually wild what they used to show on TV when we were kids — usually wedged right between an episode of SMTV and the Andrex puppy.
- Pot Noodle — proudly calling itself the “slag of all snacks.” Imagine that on CBBC today?!
- The Tango Slap — so infamous it literally got banned in schools. Everyone was doing it on the playground.
- Lynx / WKD / Carling — entire campaigns that were basically horny fever dreams.
- Baby Wee dolls — nothing says teatime telly like a doll aggressively peeing into a potty.
We just sat there cross-legged on the carpet eating fish fingers like this was completely normal.
Daisy says… “Babes, they actually let a bright orange man slap people on national TV to sell fizzy drinks. And we wonder why our generation’s unhinged.”
Confess: What’s the most inappropriate ad you remember sneaking onto kids’ TV?
