THE OVERNIGHT TRIP SURVIVAL KIT

Bunk beds, torch gossip, contraband sweets… and one very loyal fox.

Overnight school trips had their own vibe:

  • 🛏️ Bunk beds that squeaked every time someone rolled over.
  • 🔦 Torch gossip that lasted way past “lights out”.
  • 🍬 Contraband sweets tucked into sleeping bags.
  • 😭 Someone inevitably crying to go home.

And for me? It was my Basil Brush plushie 🦊.

I couldn’t sleep without him back then, but I remember feeling so embarrassed about taking him with me. Would everyone laugh? Would it make me look “babyish”?

But one of the adults spotted him, and instead of teasing me, they made me feel better about it — like it was totally okay to bring something that made me feel safe. Honestly, that tiny kindness stuck with me.

Daisy: “Babes, if it was me I’d have packed half of Toys ‘R’ Us. Basil plushie, Furby, Tamagotchi, a Care Bear for good measure. Boom boom!”

Looking back, I think lots of us had a comfort item — a teddy, a blanket, even just a lucky keyring. Those trips weren’t just about castles or climbing walls; they were about testing our independence… and realising it’s okay to need a little help (or a little fox).

✨ What did you bring on your overnight trips?
