Asten Does Nostalgia

Where nostalgia meets chaos, and Daisy won’t shut up about it

🎨 Nostalgia Pack: Art Attack

Big bold letters. Giant glue. Buckets of paint on the floor. One man with a mullet and a dream: Neil Buchanan.

If you grew up in the 90s/00s, Art Attack wasn’t just a show — it was a lifestyle. Neil made you believe that with nothing but cereal boxes, PVA glue, and some “bits and bobs” from the kitchen, you could create a masterpiece. Did ours ever look like his? Absolutely not. But the dream was there.

🖼️ Iconic Moments

  • Giant floor art reveals — how did he even see what he was making from ground level?!
  • “Here’s one I made earlier.” Neil invented the soft flex and we applauded.
  • The Head — the sassy stone bust who served tips and side-eye.
  • PVA Glue Supremacy — the holy grail of childhood crafting.

🎙️ Catchphrases & Chaos

  • “Try it yourself!” (…with what art budget, Neil?)
  • “Don’t forget to cover your table!” — and your soul, because glitter goes everywhere.
  • “All you need are some simple materials.” Translation: 47 cardboard tubes and a gallon of PVA.

🧰 The Starter Pack

  • Empty cereal boxes (preferably not still sticky from breakfast)
  • PVA glue (the squeaky bottle we all chewed, admit it)
  • Poster paint + chunky brushes
  • Safety scissors and a heroic roll of masking tape
  • Old newspaper (for papier-mâché dreams and inevitable mess)

💬 Daisy’s Corner

Daisy: Oh babes, I once tried to make a papier-mâché castle. Ended up with a soggy cereal box that smelled like regret. Dry toast energy.

Also, the giant floor art? Icon behaviour. If Neil can freestyle a 20-foot masterpiece, you can definitely glue two boxes together without crying. Probably.

✨ Fun Fact

Neil Buchanan didn’t stop at glue and glitter — he also played in a heavy metal band. The mullet had range.

🧪 Try It Yourself (No Balloons, No Popping)

  • Mini Floor Art: Tape 4 A4 sheets together on the floor. Sketch something bold (a giant paintbrush? a heart?). View from a chair for the big reveal. Instant nostalgia.
  • Cardboard Photo Frame: Cut a rectangle from a cereal box, wrap in old magazine pages, seal with PVA. Add a doodled “Made Earlier” label for the vibes.
  • Kitchen Roll Sculpt: Stack tubes with masking tape into a tiny “gallery structure.” Paint, pose, post. Boom — you’re curated.
