Asten Does Nostalgia

Where nostalgia meets chaos, and Daisy won’t shut up about it

🎂 Birthday Parties Through the Years 🎂

Birthdays as a kid weren’t just a date on the calendar — they were events. From karaoke chaos to flower-decorated cakes, each one feels like a little time capsule of 90s/00s life.

🎤 Age 9/10: The Living Room Karaoke Showdown

We held a karaoke competition right in my living room. Everyone sang Britney Spears — except one brave pair who chose Steps. Guess who walked away with the crown? Yep, Steps. Because honestly, “Tragedy” with the full arm movements will always beat “…Baby One More Time.”

🎂 Age 13: The Village Hall Sophistication Attempt

My 13th was in the village hall, complete with a chocolate cake covered in flowers. My mum muttered, “She’s 13, not 80!” but honestly, I didn’t care. Chocolate was chocolate, floral or not.

🍕 Age 16: Sweet Sixteen, Pizza Hut Edition

Forget MTV’s limo-filled extravaganzas — my Sweet 16 was at Pizza Hut. Unlimited slices, garlic bread, and the ice cream factory. Honestly, that was all the luxury I needed at 16.

🌟 Daisy’s Corner 🌟

“Oh babes, iconic. Karaoke carnage, floral funeral cake, and Pizza Hut couture — that’s basically the holy trinity of 00s birthdays. MTV could never. Also, respect to Steps for wiping Britney off the stage — pop justice served with confetti.”

Looking back, those birthdays weren’t just about cake or presents. They were about the chaos, the friends, the laughter, and those little details (like my mum roasting the cake or everyone belting Britney in the living room) that stick with me years later.

Because honestly? The best birthdays are less about glamour and more about glitter hairspray, dodgy microphones, and eating so much pizza you swear you’ll never eat again.
