Asten Does Nostalgia

Where nostalgia meets chaos, and Daisy won’t shut up about it

When CBBC Was Peak Entertainment

School’s out. You’ve dumped your bag in the hallway, grabbed a snack (probably a Fruit Winder or a Penguin bar), and plonked yourself in front of the TV. The clock says 4pm, and you know exactly what’s coming — the lineup.

For us 90s/00s kids, CBBC wasn’t just background noise. It was a whole era. And honestly? It was peak entertainment.

📺 The Legendary Lineup

  • Tracy Beaker — That theme song is seared into our brains forever (“I’ll be thereeeeee!”). Foster home drama, Cam being the most patient woman alive, and Justine Littlewood holding the crown as THE ultimate schoolyard villain.
  • Raven — “Let the challenge… begin!” Cue all of us jumping across the living room sofa because the carpet was lava. We all thought we could win, but in reality, we’d have fallen at the first hurdle.
  • 50/50Blue vs yellow mayhem. Two schools screaming their team number like it was the World Cup final, while kids in helmets slid around on giant inflatables. Points for bravery, zero points for health and safety.
  • Dick & Dom in Da Bungalow — Pure unfiltered chaos. Bogies in the supermarket, cream pies to the face, and kids running riot. Parents hated it, which obviously made it even better.
  • The Basil Brush Show — Saturday mornings were saved by a fox in a suit. BOOM BOOM. Enough said.

🏆 Why It Hit Different

  • Interactive madness — Remember phoning in or texting the shows? And those scrolling messages at the bottom of the screen? Pure adrenaline.
  • The mix — We had drama (Tracy Beaker), adventure (Raven), and nonsense (Da Bungalow) all in one block.
  • Playground currency — If you missed last night’s Tracy Beaker cliffhanger, you had nothing to contribute at break time.

🌟 Daisy’s Corner
“Oh babes, don’t talk to me about Raven. I would’ve DESTROYED those challenges. Forget swinging across ropes — I’d have yeeted half the competition into the pit myself. Also, Justine Littlewood? Dry toast energy. And Basil? Iconic. At least he wore a suit. BOOM BOOM, culture served.”

The End of an Era

Now that CBBC is fading out, it feels like the end of something bigger than just a TV channel. Kids today have endless YouTube and TikTok — but they’ll never know the thrill of racing home for a CBBC lineup that felt made for us.

CBBC wasn’t perfect, but it was ours. And honestly? Nothing since has hit quite the same.
