Asten Does Nostalgia

Where nostalgia meets chaos, and Daisy won’t shut up about it

ADN’s Fear Files: The Muppets

Some kids loved the Muppets. They grew up on Kermit, Miss Piggy, and all the chaos of Jim Henson’s fuzzy gang. Me? I was terrified.

There was just something about them — the googly eyes, the exaggerated mouths, the way they moved that didn’t look quite right. They were supposed to be funny and friendly, but to me they were straight-up nightmare fuel.

It wasn’t even one specific Muppet, either. Kermit, Piggy, Fozzie — they all gave me the creeps. The idea of them suddenly popping up on TV made my skin crawl. Kids my age were happily quoting “Wocka wocka!” and I was planning my escape route.

Looking back, I can see it now: it was the uncanny valley effect. They weren’t real people, but they weren’t cartoon either. Just a bunch of furry almost-humans waving their arms around and shouting in strange voices. My autistic brain said: nope.

🌟 Daisy’s Corner 🌟

Oh babes, this is too good. While everyone else was vibing to “Mahna Mahna,” you were busy plotting your Muppet survival strategy.

And honestly? Fair. They are a bit cursed. Why is Miss Piggy both glamorous and terrifying? Why does Animal look like he’s about to eat someone’s soul? Sesame Street was giving wholesome — the Muppets were giving chaos demon cabaret.

10/10 valid phobia.
