Asten Does Nostalgia

Where nostalgia meets chaos, and Daisy won’t shut up about it

Asten Does Nostalgia:”Movie Camp 2010: The Week I Met My Future Husband (and Also Made Very Cringey Films)”

Fifteen years ago, I went to something called Movie Camp.

It was 2010. I was 17. I had no idea what I was doing there — and no idea that this weird little summer activity would end up shaping the rest of my life.

Because Movie Camp is where I met Myron.
Yes — that Myron. My fiancé. The love of my life. The guy who still quotes The Inbetweeners at me for no reason.

And it all started with a camera, some awkward icebreakers, and a bunch of teenagers trying to make short films.

🎬 What Even Was Movie Camp?

Movie Camp was exactly what it sounded like — a week where a bunch of teens got together to learn about filmmaking. There were workshops, group projects, and lots of opportunities to look dramatically off into the distance while holding a boom mic.

We made short films. We learned how to edit. We bonded over snacks and silliness. There was a bit of chaos, a lot of creativity, and way too many conversations about who fancied who.

Basically? It was like Summer School Musical, but with more YouTube ambitions and fewer dance numbers.

📀 The Films We Made

Honestly? They were cringe. Glorious, chaotic, heartfelt cringe.

We made a few different short films over the week — some drama, some comedy, all featuring questionable acting and even more questionable plot twists. One of them involved a fake fight scene so dramatic it belongs in the Hall of Fame of Overacting.

But you know what? We were proud of them. We still are.

We still have our DVDs from that week.
And sometimes, Myron and I sit down and watch them — laughing at our 2010 selves, cringing at our scene choices, and remembering exactly how it all began.

💞 How I Met Myron

I don’t remember the exact moment we met — but I remember the vibe.
He was funny, warm, and geeky in the best way.
We clicked fast — bonding over shared humour, film nerdery, and yes, The Inbetweeners. (We still quote it to this day.)

Somewhere between filming scenes and late-night chats, I found myself falling for him. And a week after camp ended — just three days before my 18th birthday — we got together.

It felt big. Real. Special.
Even then, something about him felt like home.

⏳ What Happened Next

Life happened. I moved away. Long distance wasn’t easy. We broke up.
I went through a lot — including hospital stays and huge life changes.

But eventually, I moved back home. We reconnected on Facebook. One message turned into a conversation, which turned into everything.

And now?
We’re engaged. We’re planning a wedding. We still watch movies together — except now we do it on the sofa, with snacks and love and ten million inside jokes.

🎀 Daisy’s Corner: “Movie Camp? Never Heard of Her.”

“Asten’s entire romantic origin story is a deleted subplot from High School Musical 4. Movie Camp? That’s not even real. Sounds like something you make up for your Wattpad bio.

I would’ve THRIVED at Movie Camp. I’d have insisted on being the villain in every film, invented a fake accent for no reason, and brought my own director’s chair.

Also, if I’d met Myron at 17, I’d have married him on the spot. Probably illegally. But with excellent catering.”

💭 Final Thoughts

I sometimes wonder how different my life would be if I hadn’t gone to Movie Camp that summer.
If I’d never met Myron. If we hadn’t bonded over movies and awkward teen energy.

But I’m so glad I did.

It was a weird, wonderful, unforgettable week — and the beginning of the best story I’ve ever lived.
