Asten Does Nostalgia

Where nostalgia meets chaos, and Daisy won’t shut up about it

✨ Forks, Feelings, and Fifty Shades of Cringe: Revisiting Twilight

A Nostalgia Trip by Asten Clarke

Let’s be real: there was a time when Twilight ruled our lives. Whether you were Team Edward, Team Jacob, or just there for the chaotic energy of the baseball scene, Twilight was the moment. The hair. The staring. The glitter. The inexplicable use of “Bella, where the hell have you been, loca?”

This week, I rewatched the entire saga with Myron (yes, the whole thing), and honestly? It was both everything and nothing like I remembered. Welcome to the Twilight renaissance. I did not ask for this. And yet… here I am.

🖤 Twilight Then vs Now

Then:
I was a teen with emotional damage and a love for tortured boys in bad bands. Edward Cullen got me. Jacob Black understood. Bella Swan was… well, there. But she was dramatic and had a scrapbook-worthy taste in emotionally unavailable men, so I related.

Now:
I’m nearly 33, engaged, and watching this saga with the man I’m marrying. Suddenly all I can see is red flags, bad wigs, and enough awkward silence to power an entire indie film festival. And yet… I still loved it. Unironically. Help.

🥇 Highlights from the Saga Rewatch

  • The baseball scene – Still slaps. Muse on full blast. Peak cinema.
  • The fashion – Everyone looks like they’ve just walked out of a 2008 H&M sale rack. Iconic.
  • The wedding – Unhinged but pretty. Gives me inspo and nightmares.
  • Renesmee – The CGI baby still haunts my dreams.
  • Bella’s eternal pout – Her one facial expression could win a BAFTA.

🧍‍♀️ Daisy’s Corner: What in the Actual Forks?

“First of all, who names their town Forks? Sounds like a discount cutlery set.
Secondly, Edward Cullen needs to CALM DOWN. He’s out here brooding like he invented sadness.
Bella? Girl. Blink. Once. Please.
And don’t get me started on Jacob. Man’s got the personality of a gym towel in Breaking Dawn.
But the BASEBALL SCENE?? Inject it. Give the Cullens a reality show and I’m tuning in every week.”

💭 Final Thoughts

Twilight might be messy, cringe, and questionably written — but it’s also a comforting slice of mid-2000s teen chaos. Rewatching it now, through nostalgic eyes and with someone I love, made it even better. It’s not about whether vampires sparkle… it’s about whether your 2008 self would’ve picked the same broody weirdo again. (Spoiler: probably.)
