Asten Does Nostalgia

Where nostalgia meets chaos, and Daisy won’t shut up about it

✨ Glitter, Goosebumps, and Growing Up Neurospicy: My Love Letter to Old-School Disney Channel ✨

Before I knew I was autistic, before I had the words for being neurodivergent, I knew this: Disney Channel just got me. The colours, the chaos, the characters who somehow made everything feel okay even when your brain was doing Olympic-level backflips? Iconic. Legendary. Goosebump-inducing. And don’t even get me started on the bops.

📺 Why Disney Channel Just Hit Different

  • Every episode followed a safe, familiar rhythm. No nasty surprises, just vibes.
  • The characters were exaggerated, expressive, and totally stimmy to watch.
  • You could watch the same DCOM five times in a week and no one batted an eyelid.
  • Theme songs? Instant serotonin. (*”Livin’ life, breeeathe it in…”*)
  • It felt like someone finally turned my brain into a TV schedule — and I loved it.

🧠 My Neurodivergent Comfort Crew

(aka These Characters Walked So I Could Mask Less)

  • Raven Baxter – Sensory overload queen. Impulsive, dramatic, a visionary (literally). Screams autistic big sister energy.
  • Alex Russo – PDA-coded icon. Didn’t follow rules. Genius when motivated. Masked her softness with sarcasm.
  • Ron Stoppable – Hyperfixated on snacks, anxious but loyal, underestimated legend. Deserved more credit (and tacos).
  • London Tipton – Thrived on routine, struggled with sarcasm, lived in her own bedazzled world. Relatable.
  • Lizzie McGuire – Inner monologue overload. Chronic overthinker. Gave every awkward teen a voice.
  • Bonus round: Anna & Elsa – One masked everything, the other overshared. Tell me they’re not neurodivergent sisters in opposite fonts.

🎶 The Songs That Gave Me Goosebumps

  • “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes” – Disney Channel Stars version. No Miley, just raw ✨vibes✨.
  • “Calling All the Monsters” – Halloween anthem forever.
  • “This Is Me” (*Camp Rock*) – For when you needed to scream-sing your identity into the void.
  • “No One” – Aly & AJ’s most underrated emotional gut punch.
  • “We’re All in This Together” – And somehow… we believed it.

💭 Final Thoughts

It wasn’t just a TV channel. It was a neurodivergent lifeline disguised as tween programming. Bright colours, catchy tunes, predictable stories, and characters who felt misunderstood in exactly the right ways. Disney Channel, thank you for being the sparkly, overstimulating, chaotic comfort we didn’t know we needed — and still can’t let go of.

🎤 Daisy’s Corner: Unfiltered Commentary

“No but seriously, why wasn’t I in The Cheetah Girls? I had the wardrobe. I had the vocals. I had the attitude. Honestly? Raven was shaking. Dorinda was lucky I wasn’t cast because I would’ve eaten her alive and danced away in a glitter trench. Justice for me.” – Daisy 💅
