Before you call me biased — yes, I had a personal connection.
Yes, my cousin was in Avenue.
And YES, that made them the coolest band in the world in my eyes.
But even if I wasn’t connected to them by blood, I would’ve still been a fan. Because Avenue? They had something. They had talent. They had harmonies. They had the matching outfits and dance moves that defined a generation. And most importantly: they had bops.
📼 A Little Boyband History (In Case You Forgot)
Avenue were a British boyband that first hit the scene in the mid-2000s. Originally made up of Max George, Scott Clarke (aka my cousin!), Jamie Tinkler, Ross Candy, and Jonathan Lloyd, they auditioned for The X Factor in 2006. But drama struck early on when they were disqualified for already having a management deal.
Did that stop them? No.
They kept going. They toured. They released music. They won hearts — including mine.
💫 That Time They Were Literally in My House
True story: My mum and I went to their launch party. It already felt surreal, like we were living a dream. But then…
THEY. WERE. IN. MY. LIVING. ROOM.
Yes, Avenue — the boyband. In my actual house. The same space where I watched High School Musical and obsessively rewound my favourite music videos. I don’t remember what we talked about. I don’t even remember what snacks we had. I just remember thinking, this is the coolest moment of my life.
And to be honest? It still kind of is.
🎶 Bops That Deserved Chart Justice
Let’s talk about “Last Goodbye.” That song lived rent-free in my head before that phrase was even a thing. Melodic, emotional, and completely underrated. Don’t even get me started on “Can You Feel It?” — because yes, I could. I still can.
They were giving us harmonies, boyband drama, and just enough sparkle to sit proudly alongside the likes of Blue, JLS, and Westlife.
And yet… they never quite got the recognition they deserved. Their moment was brief. But for those of us who were paying attention? It was unforgettable.
💬 Daisy’s Corner
“You’re telling me a boyband with YOUR COUSIN in it existed and they were casually in your HOUSE?! Babe, I would’ve had a velvet rope up between the kitchen and the hallway. Avenue deserved a BRIT Award. Or at the very least a documentary on ITV2.”
🧠 Personal Bias? Absolutely.
But honestly? That’s what makes loving music special. I wasn’t just a fan — I had a front-row seat to watching someone I love chase their dream. And that made every song, every interview, every little success feel personal.
So next time someone dares to talk smack about Avenue, just know:
I will be ready with the receipts, the memories, and probably a Daisy-shaped rage monologue.
